Free Writing

Before i start this i just want to state that my way with words is pretty god awful and most of the times i put my foot in my mouth. Its something i wish i was much better at, mainly for songwriting purposes. So this is just an experiment. Nothing to be taken seriously.

Running into nothing
Crawls to the door
open please
wont go thru the keyhole
Dont know what to do
wonder if she will listen
my headphones are missing
fearless i can be with my eyes closed
my lower flip out dive thru its own being
does not compute
life is strange
strange is life
drums cant help
but dreams can prevail

Psychedelic Dream

So i've been a fan of 60's music since birth. Sadly i wasnt around in the 60's and i truely feel like i was born in the wrong era. I have a feeling my life would be alot different and maybe someone would be writing a blog about my great psychedelic albums of the past. I'm a fan of different types and genre's of music but for some reason i can never get over how amazing almost every rock album from the period 1966-1968 is beyond perfection. At the end of this little rant, which by the way isnt to be taken too seriously. I'm no music critic nor am i someone to tell you or anyone whats cool. FAR from it. So my reasons for why this era is music is just perfect. Rock N Roll was what about 10 or so years old at this point. Its still a baby, So young, So naive and around 65 everyone was opening the door to what 90 percent of music still cant close or should really. I listen to albums from 66-67 and the sounds i hear on them are to my ears more groundbreaking that anything any computer or synth or anything in 2011 could ever produce! The breakthru in music production are still being felt and re-produced today. Discovering things such as phasing, echo's and insane outerspace reverb units, Backwards recording. The list goes on and on. Also the bands then had nothing to lose, unlike 2011, Rock musicians signed to the major labels were given this thing called CREATIVE FREEDOM which is something that isnt allowed unless your a indie artist and even then you have certain factors your locked into. Any musician could write about anything or play in any style they chose or experiment freely with sound. And most of the most intense albums in my mind from that era on now known as some of the greatest rock recordings ever made. I'd like to see anything fall out boy, or creed or any dubstep, emo, pop punk  creeps put out be looked at this fondly 30 or 40 years later.  I could go on and on and i feel myself going in endless directions with this so i will leave it at that. 1966-1968 FOREVER.

Here are the list of my top 10 fave albums of 1966-68

1. Pink Floyd- Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
2. The Beatles- Revolver
3. The Beach Boys- Pet Sounds
4. The Byrds- The Notorious Byrd Brothers
5.Captain Beefheart-Strickly Personal
6.Spirit-Self Titled
7.White Noise- An Electric Storm
8. The Pretty Things- S.F. Sorrow
9.Lothar And The Hand People- Self Titled
10. Vanilla Fudge- Self Titled

The Return

Hello everyone in blogland. Its been awhile since i've said anything to you. I kinda lost hope in the whole blog concept but with the encouragement of one Amber Rose, i've decided to give it another chance.
My blog is a music blog which will focus mainly on whatever i'm digging at the moment and my own music. Since its been a few months since i've written anything here i will bring you up to speed as to what's been going on in my world. Since my last post i've released a new album called "Drawing A Blank" Link at the bottom of the page. The album has been out for a few weeks now, Got a few sales and lots of positive feedback on the music. BIG NEWS!!!!!! The album will be reviewed/mini interview on my friend's blog "DirtySexyKarma" Not sure when it will be up but i will keep you posted. Some of you may know that i play drums in a band called Cody Stagefright, We are currently working on our new ep "Pink Iguana" which will be released on april 16th. We are currently working on the mixing of the ep and also planning our ep release show. Staying super busy with both the band and working on spreading the word on the solo stuff. Submitting my album to some blogs etc etc. Will see what happens. So excited for my first write up though, cant wait! It seems like i'm forgetting so many things that have happened since my last post but i will leave you with this. Thanks for reading and for your support!

Greetings

First Off welcome to my blog. I've joined the masses and started one as well.

Today i just want to share with you my current favorite albums/songs

1.Sky Pilot-The Animals -The first time i heard this song i dont remember how old i was but the sound of it really effected it. I loved the sound of the phased drums as well as the intense middle section which includes a mock war going on, Bombs going off, gunshots guitar solos etc etc. My dad had this song on a tape he made while in vietnam which is what this song is about. during the entire song the sound drops out and back in. I asked my dad what that was and he told me that was a bomb being dropped and whenever that happened the power went out! It made listening to this song even more powerful to me then to know this song about the vietnam war was being put to tape in Vietnam and you can actually hear the bombs being dropped on this very cassette. I still think of it when i listen to that song today.

2.Cypress Hill- Self Titled-  And now for something completely different!  This album has been one of my favorite hip hop-rap albums ever since it came out. Psychedelic Gangsta rap! I love the way they put together there tracks. They took notes from both de la soul and public enemy and went even tripper with it. Plus i think b-real and sen dog have the most unique voices in hip hop. Stand out songs are "Hand on the pump"  "Stoned is the way of the walk" and "How i could just kill a man"

3.Little One By Elliott Smith-  I remember when i first heard this song i think 2 years ago. It blew me away. I wasnt too familar with his work but a few of my friends at the time were huge fans of his work. Someone burnt me a mix of their favorite songs of his as way of an introduction for me to hopefully get into his stuff and this song really stuck out. I believe that their are ghosts and spirits in recordings and in art in general and this song has them. Everytime the backwards guitar section at 1:30 starts up i get instant chills and at times i felt elevated. It may sound silly to you but i believe this to be true. I know elliott was a huge beatles fan. This song reminds me of the beatles song "Long, Long, Long" It's like a part two in my mind. Amazing song and if your not familar with this please check it out.

4.Hundreds of hiding places- R. Stevie Moore- What can i say about this man really. I've been a fan for only a short while. A little over a year and i'm hooked! A little info on the man. He's been releasing his own music since 1968 and has about if not over 400 albums in his catalog! And you thought zappa was prolific think again! I describe his sound as such. Frank zappa meets the beatles meets the residents meets todd rundgren. Each of his albums are as he describes "Like a free form radio show" Crossing all styles and all genres of music. Ok back to the album at hand. From what i understand, Hundreds of hiding places is a collection of work spanning from 1976 to the present. I could be wrong {R. Stevie Fill me in!!!} Anyways its a great collection for newcomers to his music as well as those who have been fans of his work for awhile now. Some of the stand out tracks are "Wet Nap" myself i'm a sucker for atmospheric synth pieces and this is like a wetdream for me! Love the entire vibe of the song and to hear a mandolin thrown into the mix is a pleasant surprise, Best listened to at night!  Another great song is "Steve" Another heavy mood piece me thinks. Im drawn to the mans more atmospheric/ experimental type pieces but in my mind this song is a perfect pop song. You be the judge. I could go on and on about this album but i will pick just one more song to highlight. I should also note i'm not a credit or journalist. Just a musician/music fanatic! so dont mind my endless ranting. Anyways the last song i'd like to mention is "Putting up the groceries" This i would say is the perfect example of  Stevie's Knack for writing perfect pop masterpieces. This song is beyond catchy and pleasing to the ear. Its too bad that only a few ears have heard it.  Again i cant stress how much i love this man's music and i urge you all to check out his music. I've been lucky to be-friend the man himself and work on music with him, which i hope i can continue to in the future. Here is a link to one of the tracks we've done together!
